One Year

Sunday, February 19th marked a truly special anniversary! I cannot believe how quickly one whole year has elapsed since Rebekah and I began our relationship. Yes, an entire 365 days has flown by since Scott and Rebekah officially became Scott and Rebekah. We’ve survived twelve full months of incredible ups, tortuous downs and enigmatic all-arounds that have changed our lives for the better, approximately 525,600 minutes that I personally wouldn’t trade to anyone, for anything. I know that my life and heart has indeed been enriched significantly.

We are still praying for that day when our fingers are entwined and our lips finally get to meet. For the time being, though, we are both holding onto the faith that our medical conditions will remain stable and our hearts continue to pump. Duchenne muscular dystrophy offers absolutely no guarantees. Yes, this disease is a beast. Yes, it will do everything in its power to try and curtail our union. But Duchenne doesn’t know Rebekah, and it certainly doesn’t know me. The two of us have fire in our eyes! We are tough and unbreakable! Tell us we can’t, and we will. Challenge us, and we will meet it. Knock us down, and we’ll storm back up. Stubborn is just how we roll, and the power of our intense love and devotion only strengthens us.

Although Rebekah and I have yet to be together in the physical sense, our hearts are somehow beating in unison. We live for each other now, and that is what keeps the fire burning. This love is the real deal, the genuine article, pure and natural. This love originated somewhere in the heavens, and that can never be denied!

So, how did we celebrate our anniversary? Well, we had a fight on Skype! Yeah, I guess we really are a couple!
